Bed & Breakfast, Newark
The Goat House at Ivy Cottage is situated in the historical village of Laxton, a small and quiet village that can be dated back to the doomsday book.
Laxton village sits approximately 9 miles from Newark and Retford and is close to the minster town of Southwell which has some very stylish shops and cafés. Two villages north of Laxton is Tuxford which if home to Sally Mitchell's art gallery.
Other Tourists attractions nearby are Clumber Park, Sherwood Pines, Center Parcs Belton House, Rufford Park (which also has a golf course). We are about an hours drive west to Chatsworth House, south to Stamford Town and Burghley House and north to the Peak District.
Today Laxton is the only village in England that practices medieval open field farming which is subsidised by the crown and a short walk in any direction will remind you of its history.
Ivy Cottage is a square Georgian house situated in the heart of the village and your accommodation is set in a stylishly newly converted red brick barn which dates back to 19th century, and is separate from the main house providing ample privacy to make it a perfect peaceful place to stay.
Food is sourced locally from an award winning butcher, the eggs fresh from the village!
Breakfast is served in the main house dining room between 07.00 - 0930. All is served with freshly squeezed orange juice, grapefruit and homemade jams and marmalade.
We are extremely lucky to have a highly recommended pub in the village, The Dovecote Inn, which is open seven days of the week, booking is preferable as it does get very busy, please contact Samantha, and she'll make the reservation on your behalf. In the next door village there is the Old Plough Inn, a nice walk to get there if you have time on your hands!
